The Ktunaxa Nation Council is directed by and accountable to the elected nasuʔkin (chiefs) and councillors of the four Ktunaxa First Nations.

History of the KNC

The Ktunaxa Nation Council (KNC) originated in 1970 as the Kootenay Indian District Council to promote the political and social development of the Ktunaxa people. 

In 1991 the council’s name was changed to Ktunaxa/Kinbasket Tribal Council (K/KTC) to reflect the origins of the two language groups (Ktunaxa and Secwepemc) in ʔamakʔis Ktunaxa. 

In 2005, the name was changed to Ktunaxa Nation Council Society (Ktunaxa Nation Council, KNC).
