Health care services

Nurse Practitioners, (NPs) are registered nurses who have successfully completed a master’s level NP program.

NPs are primary care providers who practice in many settings.

The Interior Health NPs  based out of the Ktunaxa Health Clinic can support you in the following ways:

  • Assess and treat diseases and or conditions
  • Prescribe medications
  • Order diagnostic services and manage results
  • Consult and refer to other health care providers


NPs focus on:

  • Ktunaxa Nation Members, their families and other Indigenous individuals
  • People with mental health and substance use challenges

Nurses provide an array of services, including:

  • Immunizations
  • Referrals to and collaboration with community healthcare partners
  • Wound care
  • TB testing
  • STI / sexual health testing
  • Communicable disease management
  • Contraception
  • Cervical cancer screening (PAP)
  • Prenatal/postnatal support
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Well-baby checkups
  • Car-seat checks
  • And more.

The LPN provides in-community care, complex client support, and mobile health services, and works closely with vulnerable clients and in collaboration with different health care providers, 

Mental Wellness Clinicians provide mental health support, including crisis intervention and connection to long-term services.

Things they can help you with:

  • Crisis response
  • Mental-health support, long- and short-term
  • Support to access residential treatment for substance use and trauma
  • Support with navigating health services
  • Support with connection to other health service providers

The primary care social worker supports the Clinic one day per week.

The social worker provides information, advocacy, support, and referrals for issues including:

  • Housing and food security
  • Mental health and substance use
  • Medication and medical equipment
  • Financial assistance
  • Disability benefit programs
  • Support services for seniors
  • Out-of-town medical appointments
  • Crisis and trauma support
  • Vulnerable children or adults
  • Advanced care planning

An internal medicine physician provides service on a monthly basis.

Your nurse practitioner can refer patients with complex health needs to see the doctor.

This allows patients quicker access to specialist care.

The psychiatrist provides a combination of virtual and in-person care out of the Ktunaxa Regional Health Centre.

Ktunaxa patients who need psychiatric care are referred through our nurse practitioners.

Other patients (e.g., Ktunaxa family members, other Indigenous patients) may also be referred on a case-by-case basis.

A physiotherapist provides physio services to patients of the clinic on a bi-weekly schedule.

You need a nurse practitioner referral to set up an appointment.

Support includes referrals, treatment navigation, OAT medication, and counselling.

Naloxone training, using safely, supplies (e.g., naloxone, pipes, needles).

The Ktunaxa Health Outreach Van is a mobile clinic space on wheels. 

The health van is used to provide services to those who do not have permanent housing and may be living rough in the Cranbrook area.

Services include:

  • Basic wound care
  • Sexual health (STI testing)
  • Mental health and substance use services/referrals
  • Immunizations, including flu vaccines
  • Harm-reduction supplies, including naloxone training
  • Medication administration
  • Education, group sessions, resources
  • Basic needs (food, water, blankets, and hygiene supplies)

Our Foot Care LPN provides foot care services on a monthly basis.

She can provide a foot assessment, trim and file of nails, treatment of ingrown nail, callouses, and corns.
