Swaq̓mu Class Presentation
May 28, 2026
Dawn Scout (Indigenous Knowledge Coordinator), Aiden Jacobs (Salmon Warrior), Marty Williams (Indigenous Knowledge Council Elder Representation) and Mara Nelson (TKL Language Coordinator)
The four of us coordinated and created a Swaq̓mu class presentation on request by Adam, a teacher from Steeples Elementary School.
Adam requested a presentation on the salmon restoration from the Ktunaxa Nation for his Grade 1 / 2 class.
We started with Mara reading the Swaq̓mu’s Tales book In Ktunaxa.
After that Aiden and Dawn handed out Swaq̓mu stickers to the students.
Aiden followed by reading the ‘We Are Salmon Warriors Statement’ and to follow he played the Salmon Warrior Video from the CRSRI (Columbia River Salmon Reintroduction Initiative) website.
Aiden and Dawn passed around the salmon plushies and spoke on facts of each salmon.
We finished by handing out postcards and taking questions from the students and teachers.
Marty assisted in this presentation with his support and knowledge as the presentation was carried out.
This was a first-time task for all of us.
We have been asked to return and do more presentations in the fall of 2026.
In the meantime, Dawn will create a template for future presentations. This was a learning task for all of four of us.
