Position Title: Housing Maintenance Worker
Location: Cranbrook, BC
Duration: Contract
Salary or Salary Range: $24 – $30 per hour DOE
Company Background:
The ʔAqantⱠanam Housing Society is a non-profit, low-Income housing society with the primary purpose of providing safe and affordable housing for low-income persons of Indigenous and non-Indigenous ancestry who are homeless or on the verge of being homeless.
Position Summary:
The Housing Maintenance Worker would be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and managing all maintenance needs of ʔAqantⱠanam Housing Society. The individual in this position will report to the Executive Director and is responsible for several specific tasks as outlined below under responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoots and performs basic housing repairs and maintenance.
- Maintains inventory of equipment and materials.
- Performs routine repairs and maintenance to appliances and equipment.
- Working closely with contractors addressing minor repairs and reporting major repair deviations.
- Lawn mowing and snow shoveling apartments and vacant house properties.
- Loading, unloading and delivery of materials, tools & equipment and other related materials as necessary.
- Performs work that requires adherence to safety procedures/practices when dealing with hazards.
- Required to use tact and diplomacy in dealing with tenants.
- Assists with annual and move-out inspections on housing units and buildings to determine repair & maintenance needs.
- Responds to emergencies and makes emergency repairs or calls.
- Schedules, prioritizes, completes and follows up on work orders.
- Carries out authorized removal of abandoned personal effects from a tenant’s premises.
- Other maintenance duties as required.
Required Qualifications/ Education/ Experience/ Skills:

- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Trades certificate in construction, electrician or plumbing an asset.
- 5 -10 years’ experience in construction or building maintenance preferred.
- Equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of building operational manuals.
- Keep accurate records and complete standardized forms.

- Ability to identify and mitigate potential safety issues on the job.
- Basic understanding of occupational health and safety, WHMIS and WorkSafe BC regulations.
- Good physical strength, hand-eye coordination and endurance and ability to lift 50 lbs. or more, within appropriate risk controls.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when required.
- Possesses strong ethical standards, work ethic, and highly motivated.
- Ability to balance competing priorities, multitask, and to work under pressure.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and abide by ʔAqantⱠanam Housing Society’s policies and procedures.
- Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5 and reliable vehicle.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
