CALL OUT FOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS
ʔAqantⱠanam Housing Society (AHS) an Indigenous led urban housing organization, seeks board members who are devoted, committed, passionate, strategic leaders to guide our mission in providing support and services to our tenants, who are primarily of Indigenous ancestry, living in low and moderate income and affordable housing. The Board of Director role is fostering long-term success of operations of ʔAqantⱡanam Housing Society.
The term for AHS Board members is two (2) years with Board of Directors being selected on the interim then elected by a majority vote of the membership at the Annual General Meeting. Board member applicants must be of Aboriginal ancestry and live within 25 km of Cranbrook, BC.
Key responsibilities as a member of the AHS Board of Directors are as follows:
- Willing and capable to commit to the AHS mission and vision
- Make decisions that are in greater interest of AHS
- Attend and participate in monthly Board meetings.
- Be prepared for board meetings by reviewing reports and background materials in advance.
- Maintain confidentiality of all matters discussed during closed sessions.
- Focus inquiries on issues related to direction setting, strategy, policy, implementation and not the day-to-day management of the society.
- Participate in the development, prioritization, and implementation of projects intended to further goals in the AHS strategic plan.
- Stay informed of and meet all legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Maintain an understanding of the regulatory, legislative, social and political environments within which AHS operates.
- Be an effective ambassador and representative of the society.
