Honouring Excellence: Ktunaxa Nation Celebrates Community, Culture and Achievement

Ktunaxa Nation Council hosted the 14th Annual Building Celebration and Ktunaxa Citizens’ Excellence Awards at the Ktunaxa Nation Government Building in ʔa·kisk̓aqǂiʔit (Cranbrook) on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

Among those recognized as part of the ceremony were Ktunaxanin̓tik who have demonstrated excellence in the fields of Arts and Entertainment (Dusty Hagerud), Business and Career (Cheryl Casimer, Amber Louieand Shay & Dusty’s Catering), Cultural Knowledge and Language (Caitlin Phillips), Education (Faye O’Neil), Sports (Maci Basil, Jaspen Ellenwood and Alexander (AJ) Ellenwood) and Lifetime Achievement (Martina Jimmy, Chris Luke Sr. and Violet Birdstone).

Ktunaxa Language Learner Awards were also given to those who have achieved milestones in their language learning journey by attending language classes. Those recognized included Arwen Buckman, Niobe, Consuelo Cutsack, Joyce Green, Emaline Manuel (Master Apprentice), Samantha Sutherland, Vickie Thomas, Loretta Wingo, Denise Nelson and Leanna Gravelle (Master Apprentice).
